I looked for you
Next to a medieval castle,
In a parking lot,
Scoured restaurant tables,
I scouted your trace
In a pile of pebbles,
Listened for your passage
Rustling the sleepy oaks,
Wondered at the clouds,
Scanned village windows
For your face,
Heard your voice
On a deserted afternoon,
Thought I saw you
Walking cobblestone streets
Beneath trees of plantain and oak.
Is that your scarf on the chair?
Is that your breath in the air?
